Micron ends 3D XPoint development to focus on CXL products
Micron ends development of 3D XPoint and shifts its focus to
CXL-enabled memory products, raising questions on the future supply
source of Intel's Optane memory.
Greg Wong, founder and principal analyst at Forward Insights, noted
that "one of the major concerns for customers" is that there is no dual source for
Optane, and "Micron's decision kills any hope of a dual source." Wong said he
thought Micron would give 3D XPoint a couple more years before deciding
whether to continue.
